So I finally had a bash at making my own stencils!
Naturally the most amazing thing in my life at the moment is Game of Thrones S2 so it seemed fitting to practice making stencils of the sigils. What I didn’t anticipate is how many hours and papercuts I would devote to the Targaryen sigil. Seriously, if only they were all like the fish.
The practice round of the Targaryan stencil on lilac fondant and using royal icing coloured black below:

The stencils were made by grabbing some images of the sigils then tracing them with carbon paper (the stuff for typewriters that I’ve always tried to find a use for) and then cutting them out with a craft knife. I managed to chance upon some Hello Kitty and Spiderman children’s plastic mat things at Home Bargains and it was like finding the gold at the end of the rainbow, but with less gold and more discounted plastic tat.
I’ve discovered that the larger stencils were far easier to cut out than the smaller ones on the cookies.
The cookies/biscuits below in all their monochrome glory:

The cookies aren’t as perfectly iced as I would have liked, I’ll be making a few more attempts at perfecting the homemade stencils I reckon.
Somewhere between the third head and the tip of the tail on the Targaryan sigil I started to flag, I don’t think I could see my hands. My eyesight has taken another battering from severe stencil making ; ) heh heh
So at the end of the Game of Thrones cookie/stencil process I was left with limited eyesight and royal icing stained claw-hands.
I have about 5 more spiderman mats that are in need of some hacking up for new stencils and I’m in need of new ideas. So let me know if you think of anything interesting! Or maybe I should just stick to making triangles and squares ; )
