I’ve always thought that I was a little design-challenged. I think that this has probably arisen as a result of spending far too many hours on Pinterest. One can only look at so many typographical posters and cute printables before wanting to attempt something similar. My main problem was that I tended to over-complicate things, so when I spotted the Principles of Good Design I thought I might be onto a winner.
The first week’s homework was to design something showing proximity and contrast, my homework submissions are below:
1. The Poetry Attempt
#33 of the hundred poets (hyakunin isshu) poetry anthology

2. My Perfect Cream Tea
Messing around with Paper, the ipad app. I’m not too sure about the font that I chose for the labelling, it doesn’t work for me.

3. January Kanzashi
Fonts used are Thirsty and Josefin Slab. Illustrations made with Paper, the app.

4. A typography attempt.
I thought about making the text for “gutter” and “stars” more decorative, but in the end I thought I’d just stick with a variation on Trend Sans.

Right, it’s been a busy week. Better get started on the materials for Principles of Good Design Week Two.
